Meteorologiacal History[]

A tropical wave moved off the coast of Africa on June 20, and headed westward across the Atlantic Ocean without development occuring. On June 30, when the wave reached the western Carribean Sea, some broad mid to lower level cyclonic turning was observed within the wave. On July 1, the wave moved across the Yucatan Peninsula, and emerged into the Bay of Campeche July 2, with satellite estimates indicating a weak surface low had formed with the wave as it emerged into the Bay of Campeche. Late on July 2, deep convection became better-defined within the wave over the extreme southwestern Gulf of Mexico, and reports from a ship indicated 20-25 knot northwesterly winds about 60 miles west-southwest of the estimated center of circulation, and thus it is assumed that Tropical Depression Two developed from this wave at 1800 UTC on July 2. Around 0400 UTC on July 3, the depression made landfall in Mexico, 35 miles east-southeast of Tuxpan. A few hours later, the depression dissipated.

Impact[]

Rainfall amounts ranging from 4.13 inches to 12.49 inches were reported in some locations of Mexico. Note that these totals are 24-hour totals.
